Except as otherwise provided by the Tournament Organizing Committee, in matches of more than 9 sets, the interval is arranged when the optimum number of sets reaches the end of the previous set, e.g. after 4 sets in a 9-set match, after 5 sets in an 11-set match, and so on. In the World Snooker Championship, players may leave the playing area for a short period of time to attend to their personal business between sets. There is no clear limit to this time, and players should endeavor to control it so that, in principle, it should not be longer than 5 minutes, except in special circumstances approved by the referee or tournament officials.
